Finisar has a range of products to both generate controlled network traffic (Generators and Testers) and to modify existing real-world traffic (Error Injectors). Using these devices, network designers, SQA, and manufacturers can make sure that the products they produce are well-tested and resilient to errors.

Fault-tolerant, single, or multi-port full-duplex TAPs maximize visibility and minimize link downtime on switched LANs and SANs. Finisar TAPs provide access to all network traffic from both sides of a full-duplex link at line rate. Completely invisible and non-intrusive to the network, TAPs allow for monitoring, capturing, and analyzing physical errors, timing errors, and client-server interactions.

Finisar Taps are available in many different platforms, from
single- to high density.

How a TAP works--Place a single-port TAP between a switch, host, and a Finisar Network Analyzer. TAPs are passive devices and will not affect your data but will still allow the monitoring of traffic.

Mission-critical or business-critical links are expensive if there is downtime. Having pre-installed taps in these links, IT engineers will be able to rapidly troubleshoot occasional anomalies and other problems without having to bring their systems down for maintenance.

Core or Backbone Links with high bandwidth utilization again should be pre-tapped to allow probes and monitors to be installed, moved and removed without breaking the links.

Intrusion Detection Monitoring, the link supporting the firewall offers a perfect place for a tap to provide a dependable and complete data stream to the Intrusion Detection System. These systems depend on complete data streams to recognize intruder patterns.

Voice over IP quality measurement demands accurate jitter and drop rate measurements. Taps allow this, but mirror ports change the jitter value and artificially inflate the drop rate.
